Hand & Wrist

Your hands and wrists are necessary tools for working, playing, and doing daily tasks. The integrity and function of the ligaments, tendons, muscles, joints, and bones determine how well the hand and wrist interact. Any of these issues can influence upper extremity function, causing problems at home and at work and lowering quality of life.
The structure of the human hand is extremely intricate and sensitive. Whether treating fractures, arthritis, or abnormalities, hand surgery demands an entirely different surgical technique from a competent hand and wrist surgeon. The entire hand, wrist, and forearm are often treated during hand surgery. Again, this entire region functions as a single unit, and any malfunction in one portion necessitates assessment of the entire system. For orthopaedic surgeons seeking accreditation in hand and wrist surgery, an additional year of training is required.
How does the
Hand Work ?
The hand and wrist have a total of 27 bones arranged to roll, spin and slide, allowing the hand to explore and control the environment and objects.

- Extend your fingers to the point where your palms are open and facing down. Extend your fingers as far as they will go.
- Flip your hands over and flex your wrists down toward the ground, keeping your fingers stretched.
- Pull your fingers down with your right hand to deepen the extension on your left wrist. Carry out the same procedure on the other side.
- Relax your fingers, then flip your hands over so that your palms are facing down and stretch them out again.
- This time, flex your wrists up toward your torso.
- By pushing your left wrist closer to your body with your right hand, you can deepen the stretch. Carry out the same procedure on the other side.
- Finally, rotate your thumbs both forward and backward to complete the stretch.
Osteoporosis is a bone condition that occurs when your body loses bone mass, produces insufficient bone mass, or both. This causes your bones to weaken, making it possible for you to break a bone with a slight injury or even a sneeze.
Bone in its natural state resembles a honeycomb. When you develop osteoporosis, the honeycomb holes become larger, weakening the bone. Fractures are more likely to occur if your bones are weak.
Because you don't feel your bones weakening, you might not realise you have osteoporosis until you've shattered a bone. Osteoporosis causes one in every two women and one in every four men over the age of 50 to break a bone.
